Counting cards is pretty dangerous, especially when a surveillance team is constantly watching every table. 21, a movie inspired from the popular book “Bringing Down The House” by Ben Mezrich, is about how getting caught by the law is not worth the risk. MIT Blackjack Team, a group of 5 students that have learned how the beat the Vegas blackjack system, head down to earn some money under the direction of Professor Micky Rosa.

The Other Boleyn Girl, originally a book written by Philippa Gregory, tells the story of Anne Boleyn’s (Natalie Portman) sister, Mary (Scarlett Johannson), who was the first one to catch the eye of the King of England (Eric Bana). Even though the book wasn’t historically accurate, it was at least intriguing, with it’s many entwining plot lines.
The movie was just a bore - two hours of watching people stare intently at each other, as if trying to telepathically tell them of some grave secret. The dialogue sucked, and the story wasn’t at all like the book. Furthermore, most of the actors weren’t convincing enough. I’m usually a pretty emotional person when watching movies, but I didn’t cry at all when Anne was sentenced to death. Probably because she was such a cold-hearted bitch the entire way through…
The only people that I would have to give props to in this movie would be Jim Sturgess (George Boleyn, Anne and Mary’s brother) and Ana Torrent (Queen Catherine). They were convincing, and added amusing dialogue to the stare-fest.
Overall, the setting and costumes were great, but the plotline was just so linear! What happened to Mary’s affair with William Stafford? What happened to the death of Queen Catherine? And most importantly, what happened to George Boleyn’s homosexuality?
With so many important parts cut out, this movie was a total disappointment for me. Go read the book, it’s a hundred times better.
